Reddish South Railway Station

Friends Of Reddish South Station

The group was formed in 2007 to campaign for reintroduction of regular passenger services from Stockport to Manchester Victoria via Reddish South & Denton Stations. Since 1992 there has been a one service to Stalybridge only no return journey. Recently this has increased 100% and we now go from Stalybridge to Stockport and back!

We have been approved for funding for a feasibility study as part of the ‘Restoring  your Railways’ scheme which is also investigating the possibility of tram- train to Ashton and a link from Marple to Stockport via Reddish South. We are a busy, dynamic group and have completed projects to refurbish the station, with a signature mural, an art project ‘Welcome to Reddish’ with 6 local schools, and a commemoration of the centenary of the end of the 1st World War. We are currently organising a much belated celebration to mark VE Day in May 2022.

Retro-Rail use Reddish South Station as a scheduled stop on their annual day excursions and we have been as far afield as Stirling, Brighton, Cardiff, Whitehaven and Skegness, We have regular Macmillan Coffee Mornings, and are already celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by planting 4 trees and refurbishing some raised beds that are opposite the station. In our 15th anniversary year we are attending local markets and fun days to again raise awareness of our campaign.

The website was replaced and updated in 2021 and we can be found at friendsofreddishsouthstation.co.uk there is a contact page where you can join the group or you can email forss1@ntlworld.com
