Platform Extension & Bridge Strengthening work – Romiley station

5th January 2022

Network Rail and Northern are extending platforms at stations across the North of England.

At Romiley station, we will be extending both platform 1 and platform 2 to allow longer trains to call here. We will also be carrying out bridge strengthening work to improve our infrastructure.

The work is due to take place from Saturday 8 January until Sunday 27 February 2022.

To undertake this project, our teams must work at night to keep themselves and passengers safe.

Details breakdown below:

Night-time work – 22:00 to 06:00

  • Each night from Saturday 8 January until Sunday 27 February 2022 (excluding Friday nights).

Disruptive Access – 24 hour working

  • 23:00 on Saturday 8 January to 05:00 on Monday 10 January
  • 23:00 on Saturday 15 January to 05:00 on Monday 17 January
  • 23:00 on Saturday 22 January to 05:00 on Monday 24 January

During this time, staff will be on site 24 hours a day and will be using a crane to remove sections of  the bridge.

As a result, it may be noisier than usual. We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

As well as the crane, we will be using a mini digger, track trolley’s, powered hand tools and site lighting throughout the project.

To keep pedestrians and drivers safe, we must implement a road closure under the bridge on Stockport Road. This will be in place each weekend (Saturday night to Monday morning only) from Saturday 8 January to Monday 7 February 2022.

A diversionary route will be in place along with the necessary signage.
